A Mother’s Love

In 2018, the world watched anxiously as a youth soccer team became trapped deep inside a flooded cave in Tham Luang Cave. For days, rising waters and darkness cut the boys off from the outside world. Rescue teams worked tirelessly, but what many people remember just as vividly were the images of the parents, especially the mothers, waiting.

They couldn’t swim into the cave. They couldn’t guide the rescue divers. They couldn’t physically reach their children.

But they stayed.

Hour after hour. Day after day. Hoping. Praying. Refusing to leave.

There is something quietly powerful about a mother’s love. It doesn’t always make headlines with bold action. Often, it looks like presence. Like waiting. Like believing when there’s no clear outcome yet.

Scripture reflects this same steady, faithful love. In Isaiah 66:13, God says, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” It’s no small thing that God chooses that image. The patience, the tenderness, the unwavering commitment of a mother becomes a picture of divine love itself.

Many mothers know what it feels like to stand at the edge of something they cannot control. To pray over a child’s future. To carry concern quietly. To love without guarantees.

And yet they stay.

They show up in the small moments. They speak encouragement. They offer comfort. They trust God with what they cannot fix.

That kind of love shapes lives in ways we may never fully see.

Today, we honor mothers not just for what they do, but for who they are: steady anchors in uncertain moments, reflections of God’s own heart.

If you are a mother, your love matters more than you know.

And if you’ve been shaped by a mother’s love, take a moment to remember and give thanks.

Because long after the headlines fade, that kind of love remains.

Yours in faith,

Roy Ice
