“All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth…Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one.” ~ Hebrews 11:13-16

Think about that for a second. The heroes of faith…the ones who changed the world, fought battles, and trusted God through impossible circumstances…they were all strangers here. Their hearts weren’t in this world. They lived like aliens, with their gaze fixed somewhere else.

Are we celebrating our lives in a way that rattles those around us because of how we carry ourselves? Are we acting like aliens on this planet? Now, I’m not talking about acting like Lady Gaga. I’m talking about alien thinking. Your heart is somewhere else. While others have left their heart in San Francisco, you have left your heart in another place, one we cannot yet drive to; you can’t take a plane there; you can’t sail a ship there; your body is here, but your heart and your mind have already moved on to another country. You live here now. But you are already a foreigner.

This is immortality disguised as everyday life. It’s thriving in the midst of mortality because you have only accepted this experience of mortality as just a passing phase.

The tricky part? You have to believe it to live it. If you’re unconvinced, if your heart hasn’t truly accepted that you belong to a better country, your behavior will follow the world’s patterns. But when faith takes root and you fully embrace that promise, the way you live, work, love, and even grieve starts to look different. You become a visible reminder that this world is not the only home, and that the God who prepared a city for you is not ashamed to call you His.

So go ahead…live like an alien. Stand out. Love differently. Hope bigger. Your citizenship awaits.

Yours in Faith,

Roy Ice
