Do you pray for your spouse?
Of course you do. You’re a good Christian.
But here’s the real question…
Are you praying for your spouse the right way?
Because there’s a big difference between praying for your spouse and praying for God to fix your spouse.
If we’re honest, some of our prayers sound less like worship and more like a divine suggestion box:
“Lord, if You could just help them see things my way…”
“Father, I’m not saying they’re wrong—but I’m also not not saying that…”
Sound familiar?
It’s easy—especially in seasons of frustration—to ask God to change our spouse. But Scripture reminds us that prayer isn’t just about changing circumstances; it’s often how God shapes our hearts.
What if, instead of asking God to change your spouse, you asked Him to bless them?
Praying blessing shifts our focus from frustration to gratitude, from control to trust. When we ask God to bless our spouse, we begin to see them not as a problem to fix, but as a person to love.
The Bible says, “In everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6). Gratitude changes the tone of our prayers—and often, our hearts.
Try this simple practice today:
Pray only prayers of blessing over your spouse. Thank God for who they are. Ask Him to meet their needs and draw them closer to Him.
You may be surprised to discover that while you were praying for your spouse, God was quietly working in you.
With love,
Mike
