I was standing in line at the grocery store when the guy behind me got a little too close.
Not “friendly” close…breathing-on-my-neck close.
Then, as I’m checking out, he starts commenting on my groceries:
“Oh, going for the double chocolate ice cream, huh?”
Yes. Yes I am. And now I want to eat it alone in peace.
Everything in me wanted to turn around and say,
“Sir, please back up and stop judging my snack habits.”
But instead, I smiled (barely) and let it go.
Not because I felt warm and fuzzy inside, but because I felt God reminding me,
“Love is patient.”
Sometimes, the people God asks us to love are not what we’d call… lovable.
They test our patience, push our buttons, and get between us and our chocolate.
But Jesus didn’t give us an out. He said:
“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34
Loving like Jesus means showing grace even when it’s inconvenient.
It means choosing patience over sarcasm. Kindness over snark.
And yes… even silence over passive-aggressive grocery aisle comments.
So let’s keep it simple. Think of one person who’s hard to love right now.
Ask God to help you see them the way He does—and to love them with His kind of love, not just yours.
Keeping the faith,
Roy Ice
