Author James Branch Cabell once wrote, “The optimist thinks that this is the best of all possible worlds; the pessimist knows it.”
I’ve always gotten a chuckle out of that quote.
And honestly… some days it feels a little too accurate.
Turn on the news for five minutes and you’ll find plenty of reasons to be discouraged. Wars. Natural disasters. Broken relationships. Financial worries. It doesn’t take much before you start wondering if the world has simply lost its way.
But here’s something I’ve noticed.
Sometimes Christians can sound just as discouraged as everyone else.
Now don’t get me wrong. We understand that this world is broken. We know pain is real. We know injustice exists, and we know this isn’t our final home.
But that’s not the whole story.
We also know how the story ends.
Jesus has already won the victory over sin and death. Because of Him, hope isn’t wishful thinking. It’s a promise. It’s confidence that even when today’s headlines seem dark, God is still writing tomorrow’s story.
That doesn’t mean we ignore reality. It means we choose to see reality through the lens of God’s promises instead of the evening news.
The world has enough voices spreading fear and discouragement.
Let’s be known as people who spread hope.
After all, we know the King… and we know His kingdom is coming.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him…” (Romans 15:13)
