The Treasure Beneath the Waves

Off the coast of Florida, long-lost Spanish treasure, over $1 million dollars’ worth, was recently pulled from the depths of the sea, a reminder of a sunken fleet lost in a hurricane over 300 years ago. Though hidden beneath waves for centuries, the treasure waited, untouched by time, until the right moment and the right hands brought it back into the light.

Treasure is often found along the Florida coast, but what makes this haul special is that most of the coins still bear visible imprints—dates and mint marks—clear proof of their origin and story. Time, water, and storms couldn’t erase what was engraved into them.

In many ways, our lives are like that stretch of the “Treasure Coast.” Sometimes, the storms of life come…loss, hardship, failure…and things we once valued deeply seem lost, buried under waves of time and pain. But God doesn’t forget what’s been lost. In His perfect timing, He brings restoration. What was buried can be found. What was forgotten can shine again.

Each coin recovered carries a story, a trace of history. And so do we. You are not just dust in the sea of humanity. You are a treasure, uniquely crafted, stamped with the image of your Creator. No storm can erase your worth, and no failure can undo His design.

The Bible tells us, “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). The Greek word for “workmanship” is poiēma — meaning a work of art, a masterpiece. Even when life has tried to bury or tarnish that identity, God is still at work, restoring you to the beauty and purpose He intended from the beginning.

So today, take heart. What feels lost is not lost to God. His grace dives deep. He is the great Restorer, the One who finds the hidden things and brings them back to light… more beautiful, more precious, and full of purpose.

Warmly,

Roy
