People often bring me Starbucks. It’s kind. It’s generous.
There’s just one problem:
I don’t like coffee.
Not hot, iced, dark roast, pumpkin spice, cappuccino, espresso…none of it.
Not tea either. Sweet, tropical, green? Nope.
If it tastes like steeped leaves or burnt beans, I’m out.
But people assume I love it—because that’s what most people like.
The truth? If you haven’t spent much time with me, you wouldn’t know.
Sometimes, we do the same thing with God.
We offer Him what we like, or what we think He might want, without ever actually asking, seeking, or listening.
But assumptions don’t lead to intimacy. Only time spent together does.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
To know God—what delights Him, what grieves Him, what He desires for your life—you have to spend time with Him. Not just serving, not just showing up on Sunday, but sitting still. Listening. Reading His Word. Talking with Him.
You can’t love someone well if you don’t know them.
I invite you to take a few quiet minutes today and just be with Him. You might be surprised what you learn.
In faith,
Roy Ice
